Indifference continues for seconds

Coalville Town 2nd XI 1  Jaguar Coventry 2nd XI  2

Bodykraft 2nd XI East Midlands Premier Division

Town's second string continued their recent indifferent form with another disappointing performance against Jaguar Coventry.

Coalville started the game brightly and were quickly into their stride. After only two minutes Scott Meadows burst forward down the right and crossed into the circle where Niki Arnold was on hand to smash Town into the lead.

But it was downhill from there on. Although Coalville continued to have the better of the play for the next 20 minutes, Jaguar began to wake up and came more into it. Arnold felt he should have been awarded a penalty stroke when his goalbound shot was stopped on the line by a defender's foot, but the umpire didn't award it.

And it got more frustrating from there on. Meadows flashed an effort wide, Aiden Spilsbury ran and ran with the ball but was always denied just as he was about to shoot, and Brent Clamp was only able to turn the ball wide when well placed at the far post.

Just under 20 minutes had gone when Jaguar pulled themselves level. An initial strike on goal was cleared away by Tom Sloan, but only fell to another who fired home into the far corner.

This gave Jaguar more confidence, and they started to swarm forward. Stuart Jobburn was being worked very hard at the holding midfield role, and Ian Wright and Carl Marshall were coming under increasing pressure. Chances soon came for the visitors, and Paul Marston clawed one shot away from goal, and was relieved to see the rebound fired wide.

Town went in level at the break, but they continued to be frustrating in the second half. Too often they were playing weak passes which put the receiver under pressure, and although Darren Conway and Jobburn began to rectify this in the second half, it was still evident that this wasn't the flowing Coalville of previous weeks.

Meadows continued to provide threat down the right flank, and it was from his pull back that Arnold again went close, forcing a good save out of the Jaguar keeper.

It took until 10 minutes from time for the winning goal to come. Coalville conceded their only penalty corner of the game and it was switched to the right where a player smashed it low past Marston. Town went on the attack and went close a couple of times, winning a series of penalty corners just after the final whistle had been blown. But they all came to nothing, and Town were left pointless.
