Arnold double saves Town

Coalville Town 2nd XI  2  Derwent 2nd XI  2

DTZ 2nd XI East Midlands Division One

Coalville salvaged a point with a late Niki Arnold equaliser after Derwent threatened to throw another spanner in the works on Town's promotion bid from DTZ East Midlands Division One.

Town started the match brightly, pressing Derwent back into their own half. Coalville created a few half chances, with Darren Ward and Scott Meadows both going close.

After seven minutes a clever through ball from Phil Sign allowed Arnold to sweep the ball home past the Derwent keeper to give Coalville the lead. Arnold had further chances, but the Derwent keeper pulled off a number of fine saves.

One minute before half time Derwent managed to scramble the ball past Town keeper Joel Barker to ensure the two teams went in level at the break.

Coalville continued to be patchy in the second half, but should have taken the lead when good interplay between Brent Clamp and Tony Crowie gave Sign an open goal to shoot at - only for the Town midfielder to fluff the chance wide.

Derwent continued to pack their defence and looked to hit on the counter - and they did so with devastating effect after 21 minutes of the second half. Coalville got caught on the break and Derwent were able to fire the ball home.

Town pulled their socks up, though, and with four minutes left Arnold equalised for Coalville with another sweeping effort into the bottom corner to secure a point. But Coalville will hope that their stutter comes to an end soon.
