28th October 2006 Easy win for Town Soar Valley 2nd XI 1 Coalville Town 2nd XI 4 DTZ 2nd XI East Midlands Division One Coalville turned in a controlled performance to register a comfortable win against struggling young Soar Valley side. Two goals apiece for Andy Whitby and the on fire Niki Arnold were enough to secure the win, despite Town initial being forced to start briefly without Arnold after forgetting their shirts. It took Coalville all of six minutes to open the scoring. Scott Meadows picked the ball up on the right inside his own half and beat three players before squaring the ball into the dee for Whitby to smash home the opener. But that lead lasted only five minutes, and uncertainty inside the area gave a Soar Valley player an opportunity that he slipped home past Joel Barker. After this Town took command, and they were guilty of missing a hatful of chances, with Meadows and Whitby both failing to put the ball away. But on 18 minutes, Coalville regained the lead when Whitby broke forward down the right and exchanged passes with Arnold and Liam McArthur, and Arnold was on hand to get on the end of Whitby's squared ball and force it home past the keeper. Gareth Turner was spraying passes all over the park at this point as Coalville continued to look like running riot, while Jay Sign was mopping up anything that came his way at the back. However, Soar Valley still went close to a second equaliser, and only a superb diving save from Barker denied them a goal from a penalty corner. The second half continued in much the same vein, with Coalville very much on top. But again, Town kept wasting chances. It took them until almost 20 minutes of the second half to breakthrough for a third time. A penalty corner was played out to Arnold who smashed home through the home keeper's legs. Glen Marston and Steve Partner were now pushing forward from full back, and Town soon won another penalty corner. Intricate passing around the dee saw the ball find Whitby who smashed home his second and Coalville's fourth of the match. This win should at least ensure Town remain in fourth place, handily positioned for a push at the top two places.
