14th October 2006 Thirds win local derby Coalville Town 3rd XI 3 Melton 3rd XI 0 DTZ 3rd XI East Midlands Division One Coalville gained a comfortable win over county rivals Melton in their latest DTZ 3rd XI East Midlands Division One clash. Town would probably have won this game by an even bigger margin had it not been for some fine saves from the visitors keeper, but two goals from Gareth Toyer and one from Carl Clay were enough to secure the win. Coalville were on top from the start, with the defensive trio of Simon Clare, Simon Calkin and Adam Whitehall being well supported by defensive midfielder Simon Wyatt to cut the service to the Melton frontmen. Midway through the first half Town broke the deadlock. Chris Pearson picked the ball up and slipped Toyer through and the Town player produced a lifted strike into the corner of the goal. Town began to take control after this and had several chances to extend their advantage. Pete Pitt, Toyer and Clay all saw thunderous efforts well saved by the Melton keeper. But Town eventually did double their lead. Pearson was again instrumental and his pass set Clay in on the keeper and he just managed to prod the ball past the keeper and into the goal. The second half saw Coalville continue to have the upper hand, but it wasn't until 15 minutes from the end that Town wrapped up their win. Clay received a pass from Darren Conway and slipped the ball into the path of Toyer who was able to squeeze the ball under the Melton keeper and into the goal. Town will hope to maintain this form when they travel to Nottingham side Boots on Saturday.
