17 February 2007 Six more for goal-crazy thirds Coalville Town 3rd XI 6 Jaguar Coventry 3rd XI 2 DTZ 3rd XI East Midlands Division One Coalville's third string made it 14 league games without defeat as they smashed six more goals against struggling Jaguar Coventry to stay at least six points clear at the top of DTZ East Midlands Division One. The result in this game was never really in doubt as Coalville swamped forward from the off and were soon peppering efforts on the Jaguar goal. Carl Clay was denied by a good save from the Jaguar keeper, while Gareth Toyer was also denied by a fine save. But Town soon made the break through when a penalty corner was played out to Clay, who drag flicked home to give Coalville a 1-0 lead after around seven minutes. It soon became 2-0 when Toyer again got through on the visiting keeper. The Jaguar goalie made a good save, but the ball came out to Ian Wright who was able to reverse flick the ball home into an open goal. Coalville continued to dominate the play, with Jaguar only really offering anything with counter attacks or at penalty corners. But the visitors soon did go close when a fiercely struck penalty corner was superbly cleared off the line by Simon Wyatt. That was the warning Town needed to push forward again, and a good interchange between Dave Mee and Darren Conway allowed Mee to play the ball to Toyer on the left of the dee, and the Town forward smashed home into the far corner to make it 3-0. Right on the half time whistle, though, Jaguar got a freak goal back when the ball was crossed into the dee, and a player managed to deflect the ball more or less from the acutest of angles in at the near post. The second half saw more of the same, with Coalville piling forward. Chris Pearson and Brent Clamp on the Coalville wings were becoming more and more influential, and Clamp should really have added to the tally, while Pearson seemed to be doing everything but score - even missing an open goal from only a couple of feet out in the first half! It was Pearson who, combining with Andy Greaves, was the architect of the fourth Town goal, though, as he weaved through the challenges of the Jaguar players before slipping the ball left for Wright who rolled the ball home past the Jaguar keeper for his second goal of the game and of the season. It quickly became 5-1 when Clamp this time slipped the ball to Toyer on the left edge of the dee. His shot found a way through a crowd of players, including Wright, into the goal, although the Jaguar keeper complained Wright was interfering with his line of view, the goal was allowed to stand. Town then made it 6-1 when Mee beat a couple of tackles before slipping Clamp away to round the keep and slot home a deserved goal. Jaguar pulled a second goal back at the death when a player bundled through a couple of Town challenges and fired home low into the far corner. But it was another six goals for Town, to make it 13 in their last two games.
