Injuries costly as Sutton smash eight

Sutton Coldfield 3rd XI  8  Coalville Town 3rd XI  1

Bodykraft 3rd XI East Midlands Premier Division

Coalville Town travelled to an undefeated Sutton Coldfield side looking to bounce back from their previous week's defeat.

Despite missing some regular players Town still fielded a side that was capable of winning this game. Coalville started brightly and were more than a match for their opposition until first half injuries to Chris Pearson (hamstring) and then Chris Woodard (calf) hampered them, and with no subs, this made Town's task even harder.

Town shuffled their pack to try and consolidate, but Sutton were just too strong and Coalville went into half time 3-0 down.

During the half time break Town suffered another injury blow when Jordan Ward picked up a calf injury which made a come back almost impossible. Down to eight fit players town continued to try and attack with Dean Pallett and Dave Mee trying to command the midfield.

But Town were hit on the break twice early in the second half. Trying to keep the score respectable Town's attacking efforts were minimal as Sutton piled on the pressure on the Coalville goal and only defiant defending stopped Coalville going further behind.

With 10 minutes to go Town attacked down the right with Woodard, Ash Wootton and Dave Mee linking up well. Darren Ward bore down on goal only for the umpire to pull the game back and gave Town a rare penalty corner.

Pearson pushed the ball out to the top of the dee, where Jay Sign produced a strike that gave the keeper no chance. This spurred Sutton on and with tired legs in the Coalville ranks gaps appeared and a late flurry of three goals resulted in Town going down heavily 8-1.
