Thirds fight back to win

Boots 3rd XI  2  Coalville Town 3rd XI  3

DTZ 3rd XI East Midlands Division One

Coalville picked up their second successive win at Boots, but had to do it the hard way.

Town were sloppy early on in this game at Lady Bay in Nottingham, and paid the price. Coalville kept conceding possession in dangerous places, and this was eventually punished as a Boots player raced away to open the scoring.

Coalville tried to tighten up after this, and the defence of Andy Greaves, Simon Wyatt, Simon Clare and Simon Calkin began to get grips with the movement of the Boots frontline.

Town began to create chances of their own, with Gareth Toyer going close and Mark Webster forcing a save out of the Boots keeper. Just as Coalville seemed to be getting on top, Boots struck again with a well taken penalty corner.

Coalville looked to get back into the game quickly, though, and managed to get a goal back before the interval. A foul on Jason Sign resulted in a penalty corner for Town, and the ball was played out for Toyer to net his third league goal of the season.

Coalville had begun their fight back, and in the second half they moved up through the gears. Dave Mee began to show some touches of quality, and it was his through ball that allowed Carl Clay to fire home past the Boots keeper to make it 2-2.

Town continued to seek a winner. Chris Pearson was causing problems down the flanks and his cross saw Clay force the home keeper into a good save, while Mee saw a strike go just wide.

Boots were now being pinned back, and with around 10 minutes to go Coalville got the decisive fifth goal of the game. Pearson picked the ball up out wide and raced around a defender and entered the area and fired home low into the far corner past the Boots keeper.

And that was enough for Town to claim three good away points.
