Promotion-chasers scrap win Coalville Town 3rd XI 1 Sutton Coldfield 3rd XI 3 Bodykraft 3rd XI East Midlands Premier Division Coalville put in a spirited display against second in the table Sutton Coldfield but still came away with nothing as two late goals secured the visitors the points. Town started this game brightly with Dave Mee and Mark Webster pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Carl Clay and Dean Pallett were working hard up front, but finding it difficult to get through the Sutton Coldfield defence. Clay soon saw one flicked effort parried away by the Sutton keeper, while another strike from Webster went wide. Jordan Ward also saw another effort go inches wide of the target. At the break, it was still goalless and, if anything, Town had been the better side even though Sutton had kept the ball quite well at times. The second half started in a similar matter, with Mee and Webster seeing plenty of the ball in the centre of the park, and again Webster was only denied after on run by a good save from the Sutton keeper. Chris Pearson then came alive, and his effort went just wide. The pressure was beginning to mount, and Coalville eventually did get manage to find the target. Clay picked the ball up in the area and bundled his way into the circle and struck a shot which the keeper saved. The rebound fell to Pallett, and he managed to hit the ball into the ground, over the keeper and into the goal to make it 1-0 to Coalville. But Coalville then came under pressure from Sutton, and 10 minutes later the Town defence was cut open and a forward fired home. Town were still on for a valuable point, but they were now giving the ball away and the front pair were being starved of possession. With a little under five minutes
remaining on the clock, Sutton broke Town's hearts by slipping the ball
through for a forward to squeeze the ball home from a tight angle. A
third goal in the final seconds put a gloss on the scoreline that was a
little harsh on Town, but it's a result that leaves Coalville still in
deep trouble in the Bodykraft East Midlands Premier Division. |
