28th October 2006 Crushing win for thirds Coalville Town 3rd XI 4 Leamington 3rd XI 0 DTZ 3rd XI East Midlands Division One Coalville continued their good run of form with an impressive win over Leamington to climb above their opponents in DTZ East Midlands Division One. Things looked promising for Town when Leamington were forced to start the game with only nine players, and Coalville piled the pressure on. Gareth Toyer and Carl Clay both had chances, but fired wide. Chris Pearson was also denied by the foot of the Leamington keeper. Leamington's other two players eventually turned up, but even then their only real threat was on the counter attack and with Simon Calkin and Simon Wyatt in good form in the centre of defence, the threat was largely nullified. After 20 minutes, Coalville found the breakthrough. An interchange between Dave Mee and Darren Conway allowed skipper Conway to play a fine slide-rule ball that set Toyer away on goal. Toyer kept his shot low and calmly slid it past the Leamington keeper to give Town the leader. Toyer was soon in action again, but this time blasted wildly and straight at the Leamington keeper, while Clay was again guilty of wasting another opportunity. Town thought they had a second goal shortly before the interval, but Clay's penalty corner strike was disallowed, so that two sides changed ends with only one goal in it. Coalville continued to have a large share of the possession early in the second half, but still weren't able to make it tell on the scoreboard. And Leamington did have a chance from a penalty corner of their own which brought a decent save out of Town keeper Greg Tongue. Just over 10 minutes into the second half, though, the game was put beyond doubt with two goals in two minutes for Town. First a penalty corner was awarded for a foul in the dee. The ball was played out to Clay, who slipped into the path Mee, who beat a defender and then calmly slotted home past the keeper. A minute later and Mee repaid the compliment, winning the ball in midfield and setting Clay away between two defenders to smash the ball home low into the bottom corner to make it 3-0. Five minutes later Coalville added a fourth goal when Mark Webster fired home his first goal of the season to seal a big win for Town.
