4th November 2006 Thirds win again Jaguar Coventry 3rd XI 3 Coalville Town 3rd XI 5 DTZ 3rd XI East Midlands Division One Coalville's winning run continued with a hard fought victory at struggling Jaguar Coventry. Town started brightly in this DTZ East Midlands Division One match and were soon a goal to the good. Skipper Darren Conway picked the ball up and was allowed to run into the dee. Jaguar missed a couple of challenges and the Town midfielder was able to slot home. A few minutes later Coalville doubled their advantage. Chris Pearson went on a run down the flank and played the ball into the area for Carl Clay hit the ball on his reverse side into the far corner of the goal. It all seemed pretty easy for Town at this point, but Jaguar then hit back on the counter attack and player was able to force the ball home past Greg Tongue in the Coalville goal. Things then got worse for Town as Jaguar levelled the game up with a very dubious goal. Town claimed the Coventry player had kicked the ball at least twice on his way to slotting the ball home, but it was missed by the umpires and the goal was allowed to stand. But the scoring wasn't finished there in an exciting first half. Coalville won a penalty corner with just over five minutes of the half left. Pearson picked the ball up and slipped it to Clay, who squared it for Gareth Toyer for Toyer to flick home high into the goal. Coalville then added a fourth before the half time whistle. Pearson was again integral, bursting forward down the right and crossing to allow Clay to smash home his second high into the roof of the goal. But Jaguar came back into it shortly after the restart, making it 4-3 when a player was able to deflect a cross home at the near post. At this point, the Town defence of Simon Clare, Simon Calkin, Jay Sign and Simon Wyatt began to tighten up, and Coalville soon regained control of the game, with Dave Mee showing some nice touches in the centre of the park. With around 15 minutes to go, Coalville sealed their win. Conway again burst forward from midfield and hit a shot towards goal. Clay managed to block off a defender and the ball managed to beat the Coventry keeper to make it 5-3. This is a result that should ensure Town at least climb into third position, and still level on points with the top two. |
