Fourths suffer surprise defeat

Nuneaton 5th XI 3 Coalville Town 4th XI  2

Bodykraft Central League South East Division One

Coalville's fourth string suffered a surprise defeat against previously pointless Nuneaton fifths.

In a typical Coalville-Nuneaton affair, Town played some good hockey but found it hard to break down the home side, who packed their defence and looked to hit on the counter.

Midway through the half Nuneaton got the breakthrough with a well worked goal that left Kieron Fisher in the Town goal with little chance. Fisher was soon called into action after this, making a good save to deny a Nuneaton forward.

Sean Rigley was putting in some good challenges at the back, and Jack Butcher was having a solid game. But Nuneaton doubled their advantage with a well struck penalty corner.

Town managed to get one back before the break when Carl Clay produced a trademark drag flick from a penalty corner to make it 2-1 at the interval.

The second half continued in a similar vein, with Adam Martin going on several fantastic runs that was causing Nuneaton all sorts of headaches. Martin soon combined with Josh McArthur, but his shot went narrowly wide of the goal.

Coalville continued to apply the pressure, but then fell to another sucker punch from the home side. A foul in the dee resulted in another penalty corner, and this was this time deflected home to make it 3-1.

Town now had an uphill task, and with 10 minutes left they pulled it back to 3-2. Coalville won another penalty corner and this time Clay stepped up and smashed the ball past the Nuneaton keeper.

Things then got a little niggly as both sides sought another goal, but neither team could find a way through and that meant the points stayed in Warwickshire.
