Town scrap their way to victory

Coalville returned to winning ways with a pleasing victory over Kettering in their latest Bodykraft Central League South East Division One fixture.

Despite not playing at the fluent best, it was nice for the young Coalville side to get back to winning ways. Town knocked on the door several times during the first half of this encounter, with Carl Clay and James Dumelow both seeing good efforts well saved by the in-form Kettering keeper.

Adam Martin and Josh McArthur were scrapping hard in the centre of midfield to supply Matt Wooldridge and Ezra Watson with the ball on the flanks. At the back, Adam Whitehall and Simon Wyatt were working well together to cut out the best that Kettering had to offer.

The two sides went in all square at the interval. Town decided to go on the attack and pushed Wyatt up into midfield, and this paid almost instant dividends. Wyatt picked the ball in the middle and burst past his marker. He then spotted Clay making a run in behind the defence and slipped the ball through for Town's top scorer to latch onto the ball and slot it past the visiting keeper to give Coalville the lead.

10 minutes later Coalville doubled their lead. A penalty corner was awarded following a foul inside the dee. It was played out to Clay and he stepped up and produced a trademark drag flick high into the goal.

With around five minutes left Kettering got one back from a well worked penalty corner routine of their own, and the visitors piled the pressure late on.

They came within a whisker of getting a leveller when a forward burst clear of the Town defence to get through one on one with Kieran Fisher in the Coalville goal. But the Town keeper produced a game winning save to ensure it the home side who picked up all three points.
