Crucial win for fourths

Coalville Town 4th XI  1  GEC Rugby 4th XI  0

DTZ Central League South East Division One

James Lorrimer's second half strike was enough to give Coalville victory in this end-to-end clash with promotion-chasing GEC Rugby.

Both sides had chances in the opening exchanges, with Jordan Ward and Martin Saunt both seeing efforts go narrowly wide for Coalville.

Town's defence of Richard Hope, Dave Briers, Craig Deacon and Ash Wootton came under pressure, but they managed to stay firm and Richard Jones, in the Coalville goal, was able to see a couple of penalty corner efforts fail to hit the target.

Coalville then had another couple of efforts go close. Deacon played the ball to James Unwin who slipped it Dean Pallett. Pallett dribbled into the area and fired at goal, but the ball went inches wide.

Unwin then went close himself with a reverse stick effort that went narrowly over the crossbar.

It wasn't until midway through the second half that the deadlock was broken decisively. Jason Sign played the ball out to Wootton and he drove forward, beat one player and dribbled along the base line. He then pulled the back where Lorrimer was waiting to sweep home.

The game then became quite tense as Coalville tried to hang to their lead and Rugby sought an equaliser. But Coalville hung out for a crucial three points.
