Tabletoppers just too good

Rugby & East Warwick 4th XI  5  Coalville Town 4th XI  1

Bodykraft Central League South East Division One

Table-topping Rugby & East Warwick 4ths proved to be much too strong for Coalville in their latest Bodykraft Central League South East Division One fixture.

Coalville battled bravely throughout the game, with Tom Sloan and Sean Rigley putting in a number of good tackles. Going forward, Matt Wooldridge and Josh McArthur were both showing glimpses of their talent against tough markers, and Adam Martin and Simon Wyatt were working hard in the centre of the park.

Rugby opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a well worked penalty corner, but Town fought back and levelled the game when Ezra Watson burst through and laid the ball into the path of Carl Clay. Clay's initial shot was blocked by the home keeper, but Clay had the presence of mind to dink the rebound over the keeper and into the goal.

But Rugby came back and regained the lead from the penalty spot after a foot infringement on the line by Coalville defender, although Town argued in vain that there had been a number of stick tackles before the offence that should have resulted in a free hit to Coalville.

The second half saw Rugby continue to tighten the screw, and Kieron Fisher in the Coalville goal was soon producing some fine saves to keep the home team. But there was nothing he could do about the Rugby's third from a penalty corner.

Two more well-struck penalty corners made it 5-1, and although Liam Bates saw a shot late on blocked by a defender, there was no doubt that Coalville had been well-beaten by easily the best side in the division.
