Fourths fight in vain

Rugby & East Warwick 5th XI 2  Coalville Town 4th XI  0

Bodykraft Central League South East Division One

Coalville's fourth string put in a battling performance for no reward as high flying Rugby & East Warwick scored a goal in each half to take the points.

Rugby started the stronger and had Coalville under pressure in the opening 20 minutes. Kieron Fisher was soon forced into a couple of fine saves as Town struggled to shake the rust off from the winter break.

With around 15 minutes on the clock, the pressure finally told when a penalty corner strike flew into the goal via the knee of Town skipper Simon Wyatt - who was unfortunately forced to leave the field of play with injury.

Coalville reorganised with Jack Butcher coming on in place of Wyatt to join Adam Whitehall, Sean Rigley and Liam Bates in defence, and Town saw it out through to the interval.

Town were now looking brighter at the start of the second half, with Adam Martin, Josh McArthur and Matt Wooldridge all coming more into the game. Wooldridge soon saw a shot go wide, while Jaspal Randhawa playing up front also saw a shot well saved by the Rugby keeper.

Ezra Watson continued to battle on the left of midfield, and almost created a chance for McArthur, but he couldn't quite get his stick on it. Rugby were still dangerous, though, and midway through the half doubled their advantage with another well worked penalty corner.

But Coalville continued to battle, and even though they lost this game, they can hold their heads high after another good display.
