Leaders too strong

Coventry & North Warwick 4th XI 6 Coalville Town 4th XI 3

DTZ Central League South East Division One

Unbeaten table toppers Coventry & North Warwick were given a scare by Coalville's battling fourth string, but were ultimately too strong for the Town side.

Coalville were slow to start in the game and found themselves 2-0 down fairly early into the game, with one of the goals giving Richard Jones in the Town goal no chance as it was a thunderbolt into the top corner.

But Town fought back before the break and a free hit on the edge of the dee allowed Craig Deacon to fire into the area and Dave Briers was on hand to sweep home a rare goal.

Coventry came back after this though, and by midway through the second half had got the game sewn up by scoring three more well worked goals. They had a sixth when a flicked penalty corner flew into the Town goal.

Town showed some tremendous spirit, though, and got a goal back when Jason Sign hit a shot towards goal which Jordan Ward was on hand to deflect past the Coventry keeper.

Alarm bells then began to ring for the hosts when Deacon's pass allowed Dean Pallett to race in on goal and fire home past the keeper to make it 6-3. But it was ultimately in vain for Town, and Coventry maintain their 100 per cent record and charge towards the DTZ Central League East Midlands Premier Division.
