Dour game but important point

Sutton Coldfield 6th XI  0  Coalville Town 4th XI  0

DTZ Central League South East Division One

Coalville's fourth string picked up a valuable point in a dour game of few chances for either side at  fourth-placed Sutton Coldfield.

The home side started the game strongly in the opening 15 minutes, pinning Coalville back in their own half and forcing Richard Jones in the Town goal into a save. But Coalville eventually got a grip and started to get their game going.

Dean Pallett soon hit a shot at goal which was well saved by the Sutton Coldfield keeper, but their were few chances for either side in what was a midfield battle.

The second half continued to be a midfield battle, and Town had a good chance at a penalty corner which Pallett fired wide. James Unwin also saw a shot go wide.

However, Unwin blotted his copybook when he was yellow carded for speaking out of turn to the umpire, but Coalville clung on for the 10 minutes he was off the park.

A good pass from Jay Sign set Craig Deacon away down the left, but his shot went well wide. When Unwin returned, he almost carved open a late opportunity, but Matt Howells couldn't quite get on the end of the cross.

This was an important point for Town, though, as it continues to keep them clear of bottom of the table Coventry and North Warwick 5ths, and away from the relegation zone.
