Fourths get deserved win

Coalville Town 4th XI 2 Warwick University 4th XI  1

Bodykraft Central League South East Division One

Coalville's fourth string picked up a hard fought win against the students of Warwick University with a gritty and determined display.

Town started brightly, taking the game to Warwick. Simon Wyatt and Adam Martin were working hard to match the energetic students in midfield, while Sean Rigley and Tom Sloan were putting in some determined tackles at the back.

Out wide, Josh McArthur and Liam Bates were both tricking their way past their marker, and it was no surprise when Town opened the scoring from a penalty corner. Steve Farmer, making a rare appearance these days, dragged out the corner to Carl Clay. Clay slipped the ball back into Farmer's path for the Town man to fire home.

Coalville continued to control the game after this, and saw out to half time without any real scares. But shortly after the restart, Warwick managed to draw level with a well struck penalty corner effort.

The game then went through a relatively even spell, as both sides tested each other out. Clay and Ezra Watson both had shots saved, but it wasn't until 10 minutes from the end that Coalville found the decisive break through.

Martin was upended in the dee and a penalty corner awarded. Farmer again dragged out to Clay, and this time, having earlier tried his trademark drag flick and had it saved, the Town marksman decided to go for brute force, and blasted the ball against the backboard to make it 2-1.

And that was enough to give Coalville their first three points of the season and take themselves away from the bottom two.
