Experience counts as fourths lose

Sutton Coldfield 6th XI 3  Coalville Town 4th XI  0

Bodykraft Central League South East Division One

Coalville's fourth string were second best against vastly more experienced Sutton Coldfield side in their latest Bodykraft Central League South East Division One fixture.

Town played some good hockey on an awkward surface at Sutton Coldfield, but were ultimately outmuscled by the home side, who pull themselves away from the danger zone in the division with this result.

Sutton started the sharper and took the lead midway through the first half with a well taken goal that left Kieron Fisher in the Town goal with little chance. Coalville battled hard, with the midfield quartet of Ash Wootton, Josh McArthur, Adam Martin and Matt Wooldridge doing really well against tough opponents.

Town had plenty of possession, but just couldn't make anything of it, with James Dumelow and Ezra Watson both firing chances wide. At the back, Sean Rigley, Jack Butcher and Liam Bates were putting in some good challenges, supported by the experience of the returning Simon Clare.

The home side, though, extended their lead from a penalty corner shortly before the break to go in two-up at the interval, but it didn't really reflect the game, just the hosts ability to take their chances.

The second half continued in a similar vein, with McArthur, Martin and Wooldridge producing some lovely interchanges, but again finding finding no end product.

The home side grabbed a fortuitous third goal near the end when the ball was fired, allegedly from inside the circle (although Town would contest this), hit Clare's stick and flew into the goal.

That sealed what looks like a comfortable win for Sutton Coldfield, but that was in truth anything but. There'll be better days for Coalville, who put in a pleasing display despite the scoreline.
