Same old story as fourths lose again

GEC Rugby 4th XI  4  Coalville Town 4th XI  2

DTZ Central League South East Division One

Coalville crashed to another defeat in the DTZ Central League South East Division One, although they can count themselves a little unfortunate.

Town dominated long periods of the game, but an inability to put away chances and a vulnerability at the back to penalty corners meant it was ultimately to be another defeat that keeps Coalville bottom of the table.

Despite starting brightly, Coalville fell behind inside the opening five minutes when a penalty corner was blasted past Richard Jones in the Town goal. Two more penalty corners for the home side led to two more goals, and Coalville were really up against it.

But Town didn't let their heads drop, and 10 minutes before the break found a way back into the game. James Unwin slipped the ball through for Dean Pallett who produced a trademark thunderbolt toward goal. The Rugby keeper managed to save Pallett's effort, but the rebound fell nicely to James Ewing who was able to slot home his first goal for the club.

The fightback was now on, and things looked even brighter when Coalville got another goal before the interval. Town won a penalty corner which was slipped into the path of Richard Hope who smashed home.

The second half saw Coalville on top for much of the game, but Jordan Ward, Darren Ward and Pallett all failed to hit the target as Town failed to make their chances pay.

10 minutes from the end, GEC Rugby won another penalty corner. The initial strike was well saved by Jones, but the Coalville keeper was powerless to do anything about the rebound, which was flicked high into the goal to seal Coalville's fate.
