Town hold promotion chasers

Coalville Town 4th XI 1 Rugby 4th XI 1

DTZ Central League South East Division One

Promotion-chasing Rugby were held to a draw as Jason Sign scored a last gasp equaliser for Coalville.

In a tight, but entertaining, first half both sides created chances but neither was able to take advantage. Both teams won penalty corners, but spurned their opportunities.

Dean Pallett hit one effort wide of the mark, while Matt Howells could have scored had his finishing been crisper. At the other end, Rugby kept pressurising the Town defence Ahren Parry, Martin Saunt, Dave Briers and Ash Wootton, but they managed to stand firm.

It wasn't until 10 minutes into the second half that Rugby finally found the opening breakthrough. A penalty corner was awarded, and although Town managed to block the initial strike, Craig Deacon unfortunately failed to clear the ball adequately from the far post and player was able to jab the ball into an open goal.

Coalville tried to fight back, and a couple of more penalty corner efforts went close, with Jordan Ward and James Unwin close to getting deflections on Pallett and Sign strikes.

Just as time was up, Coalville won another penalty corner. The ball was played out to Sign who hit a perfect strike just inside the post and just beyond the despairing dive of the Rugby keeper to grab a point for Town.
