Fourths revival continues

Coalville's fourth string picked up their second win in a row after a good performance against third-placed county rivals Melton.

The game started off fairly evenly as both sides tried to find the others weaknesses, and it was Melton who settled first, taking the lead after around 20 minutes with a well taken goal.

But Coalville fought back and levelled the game shortly afterwards. Ash Wootton raced forward down the right flank and crossed into the area where top scorer Dean Pallett was on hand to sweep home his eighth goal of the season.

Shortly before the interval Town then had some upheaval to deal with. Richard Jones in the Coalville goal made a superb save from a shot, but in doing so his pad came loose. A follow up effort flew in and smashed against the Town keeper's knee, leaving him injured and unable to continue. Town reorganised, though, and saw it through to half-time at 1-1.

The second half came round and midway through the half Town took the lead. Coalville won a penalty corner and the initial strike was going wide, but the Melton keeper saved it. The rebound fell to Matt Howes, who played it back to Jay Sign, who fired home.

Shortly afterwards Coalville scored a sensational third goal. Craig Deacon picked the ball up inside his own half and raced forward, over the halfway line and into the Melton area. Deacon could then have gone for glory himself as the keeper came out to him, but unselfishly swept the ball into the path of Howes, who tapped home into an open goal.

Coalville continued to battle after this and James Unwin, playing as a centre forward, had a shot that went just wide. The Coalville defence of Wootton, Dave Briers, Martin Saunt and Ahren Parry then shut up shop to keep Melton at bay and secure three more valuable points for Town.
