Tough day for fourths

Rugby 4th XI 4 Coalville Town 4th XI 0

DTZ Central League South East Division One

Coalville continue to find it hard going in DTZ Central League South East Division One after suffering a heavy defeat at Lutterworth against Rugby fourths.

Town made a good fist of it in the first half, with some battling work by the defence of James Unwin, Dave Briers, Richard Hope and Ahren Parry, supported by the central midfield pairing of Martin Saunt and Craig Deacon.

But chances were few and far between, and Richard Jones in the Coalville goal was by far the busier keeper. Shortly before half time, Darren Ward picked up a yellow card, although no one on the Coalville side could see what Ward had done to deserve the card.

The second half saw the floodgates open early on, with Rugby scoring shortly after the restart, and adding a second 10 minutes later.

Coalville came under further intense pressure, and Jones was beaten for a third time by a fierce strike, and a fourth then nearly arrived but for a goal line clearance from Saunt.

James Ewing and Ash Wootton kept using their pace on the flanks to try and set up counter attacks, and from one penalty corner Ward was denied by the home keeper after a neat pass from Matt Howes.

Shortly before the end, though, the home side added a fourth to secure a comfortable win.
