Fourths find going tough

Coalville Town 4th XI  1  Coventry & N. Warwick 4th XI  4

DTZ Central League South East Division One

Coalville's fourth string knew they were in for a hard season opener against Coventry & North Warwick, and the final score proved just how tough it was.

Town battled hard throughout, and the performances of some of the younger members of the side, Jordan Ward and Declan Turner,  were particularly pleasing.

Captain Martin Saunt was a busy man throughout as Coventry piled on the pressure from the off, taking the lead with a well worked goal after around 15 minutes.

The visitors added a second before the break and then went three up shortly after the interval, despite keeper Richard Jones' best efforts to keep the ball out.

David Briers and Craig Deacon battled hard, while Peter Pitt provided some energy in the middle of the park for Town. Town did eventually get a consolation goal when good work from Ward enabled Dean Pallett to fire home.

But Coventry were to have the last say, adding a fourth goal to make it a tough start to the DTZ Central League South East Division One season.
