Good performance, no reward

Coalville Town 4th XI 0  Rugby & East Warwick 5th XI  1

Bodykraft Central League South East Division One

Coalville's fourth string dominated this game for long spells but could not find a way to score against a more experienced Rugby & East Warwick side.

Town started brightly, with Simon Wyatt and Adam Martin working hard in the middle of the park to provide the ball to the front pairing of Ezra Watson and Simon McArthur.

At the back Jack Butcher, Carl Clay, Tom Sloan and Sean Rigley were doing well and cutting out most of what Rugby & East Warwick had to offer, and even when they were beaten Kieran Fisher in the Coalville goal was on hand to make some good saves.

Just before half time, though, the Coalville defence was unlocked and Rugby & East Warwick found a way to goal to take the lead against the run of play.

The second half was much the same, with Coalville dominating. In Matt Wooldridge, Town had the game's outstanding player and time and again he had the Rugby & East Warwick defence in knots. With Josh McArthur on the other flank, Coalville had plenty of trickery, but couldn't find that cutting edge.

Watson saw a couple of efforts go narrowly wide, while Simon McArthur just failed to get on the end of a Wooldridge cross. Despite all of their pressure, and a good performance all round, it wasn't enough and Town slipped to the narrowest of defeats.
