Excellent point for fourths

Coventry & N. Warwick 5th XI  1  Coalville Town 4th XI  1

DTZ Central League South East Division One

Coalville's fourth string put the heavy defeat against Coventry & North Warwick's 4th string the previous week behind them to pick up a good point against the same club's fifth XI.

The home side had the previous season won the Central League South East Division Two, a full four places above Town who had finished fifth but were promoted due to league restructuring.

And although Coventry played some good stuff early on, Coalville showed the sort of mettle they'll need to keep themselves in this division, and count themselves a little unfortunate to not come away with all three points.

Darren Ward had a couple of half chances early on to fire Town in front, but Coalville also had to be thankful for a couple of good saves from keeper Richard Jones to keep Coventry out.

Peter Pitt was winning some good ball in the centre of the park, while Craig Deacon and James Lorrimer were also working hard. Ash Wootton was also causing problems on the flank with his pace.

Eventually Town did manage to carve open the Coventry defence when a good pass from Martin Saunt was controlled by Jordan Ward. Ward then slipped the ball to big brother Darren Ward, who fired home underneath the Coventry keeper for his first goal of the season so far.

Town held the lead at the break, but the young Coventry side came out strongly after the interval, and Jones was soon being called on to make some fine saves.

Eventually, the visitors pressure told and they managed to squeeze an equaliser past Jones, but Coalville came out strongly again after this, with both Ward's seeing efforts saved.

In the end it was a point apiece, and Town will need to keep this form up when they face local rivals Melton 4ths on Saturday.
