Fifths have to settle for a draw

Coalville's fifth string twice fought back from a goal down to salvage a point in their latest BodyKraft Central League South East Division Two clash against county rivals Melton.

Coalville didn't play as well as they did the previous week but still dominated possession against a Melton side containing a mixture of youth and experience. Russell Hallam and Jack Harcourt were working hard in the centre of midfield, and Sam Bingley and Sam Edwards both had decent games on the flanks.

But an error in defence allowed a Melton forward to race away and slot home past Kieron Fisher in the Town goal. Town continued to play the ball around well at the back, with Martin Saunt and Simon Wyatt combining well, and James Dumelow and Dean Pallett proving to be a handful up front.

It was shortly after the start of the second half that Coalville finally got level. Pallett picked the ball up just outside the dee and drove into the area before blasting a thunderbolt of a strike just above the backboard that gave the Melton keeper no chance.

Town continued to press on in search of more goals, only to get caught on the break to allow Melton to regain the lead.

It wasn't until 10 minutes before the end that Town levelled again. Dumelow was felled by a Melton player but got nothing for it and that incensed the Coalville forward. So the next time the ball reached him, from a tight angle he produced a superb reverse stick shot that beat the Melton keeper and gave Dumelow the last laugh on his upender!

Coalville poured forward in the dying minutes in search of a winning goal, with Tom Kelly and Adam Mills both instrumental in Town's best chances. But a winning goal wasn't destined to come, and Coalville had to settle for a draw.
