Fifths hold leaders Coalville Town 5th XI 1 Rugby & East Warwick 6th XI 1 Bodykraft Central League South East Division Two Coalville's fifth string turned in a good performance to hold tabletopping Rugby & East Warwick and end their season on a positive note. Town started the game brightly and applied pressure on Rugby early on. Josh Bates and Russell Hallam both had shots on goal in the opening exchanges and Coalville were keeping good shape, with James Unwin and Sam Bingley working well together at the back. Midway through the half Town took the lead with a slightly fortuitous goal. The ball was fired into the area and Dean Pallett deflected the effort, which squeezed past a defender, bounced off the keeper and into the top corner of the goal to make it 1-0 to Town. Rugby fought back after this knowing that anything less than three points could cost them the title. But Coalville continued to give it 110 per cent, and it wasn't until about 10 minutes of the second half that Rugby got a leveller, which was similarly fortuitous to the Coalville goal. The ball was fired towards Rob Houghton's goal and hit a wet patch on the pitch, causing it to spin uncontrollably, before hitting Houghton's body armour and skidding into the goal. Both sides continued to search for a winner, with Sam Edwards almost slipping Hallam in late on, but his effort was well saved by the Rugby keeper. This result means the fifths finish the season in fifth spot - a good result for a young side of relative newcomers to the game. |
