2 December 2006 Fifths run table toppers close West Bridgford 9th XI 1 Coalville Town 5th XI 0 Friendly Coalville's fifth string again put in a good display against DTZ Central League North East Division Two league leaders . Coalville had much of the game against the Nottinghamshire side, dominating possession at times, and creating chances for the front men, with Simon McArthur seeing a shot go close and Declan Turner also hitting another fierce narrowly wide. Adam Martin and Kristian Webb were working well together in midfield and providing plenty of ball to Josh McArthur and Sam Edwards on the flanks. James Dumelow was also holding the ball up well up front and bringing his team mates into play. Against the run of play, West Bridgford took the lead from a penalty corner which was struck home into the net above the backboard. Coalville claimed it was the first strike, and so shouldn't have counted, but the home umpires said it was the second shot and therefore a fair goal. Coalville continued to battle hard in the second half, and Martin soon had a couple of good efforts well saved by the West Bridgford keeper. Town were soon rocked when Chris Ashton suffered a torn hamstring, but the defence of Tom Sloan, Sean Rigley, Ezra Watson and Liam Bates stood firm. For Bates, it was his first game for Coalville, and he stood up well to the test. Coalville couldn't find a way through the West Bridgford defence, unfortunately, so suffered a 1-0 defeat, but it was another highly promising performance against a side flying so high in their division. |
