Late winner denies fifths

Coalville Town 5th XI  0  Rugby 5th XI  1

DTZ Central League South East Division Two

Coalville's fifth string were robbed of a share of the spoils by a last minute goal against a much more experienced Rugby side at King Edward VII College.

Town's young side put up a brave fight and dominated much of the play throughout the game, but couldn't find the cutting edge necessary to take advantage of their dominance.

Shorn of their experienced members of the side because of illness and injury, Town fielded an outfield side with an average age of around 15, bolstered only be the older head in goals of Stuart Burton.

Town started brightly with Adam Lloyd and Adam Martin fighting hard in midfield, and Matt Wooldridge and Josh McArthur testing their markers on either flank.

Tom Sloan was showing composure beyond his years at the back, working well alongside Ezra Watson, Liam Bates and Sam Edwards.

Town created a few chances, with Kristian Webb, Declan Turner and James Dumelow all having openings, but for all their possession, Coalville couldn't find a way of breaking through the Rugby defence.

Just when it looked as though the game was peetering out to a goalless draw, which would have been a richly deserved result for the Town side, lady luck turned against Coalville and Rugby managed to scramble the ball home with virtually the final hit of the game.
