Fifths fall to defeat

Ashby 4th XI 3  Coalville Town 5th XI  0

Bodykraft Central League South East Division Two

Coalville's fifth string tasted defeat for the first time this season at north west Leicestershire rivals Ashby.

The scoreline didn't really reflect the game, as Town put in a decent performance and it was individual errors that ultimately cost Coalville in this game.

Things got off to a bad start for Town when after around five minutes Sam Bingley took a stick in the face from an Ashby player which left the Coalville player with a nasty gash on the chin.

While Bingley got himself patched up, Coalville continued with only 10 players and the central pairing of Russell Hallam and Jack Harcourt were working overtime to contain their Ashby opponents.

Eventually, though, Ashby got the breakthrough with a controversial goal which saw an Ashby player kick the ball before poking it home. When Bingley did return, Coalville shored things up and James Dumelow soon had a shot go wide.

Town went in a goal down at the break, and came out for the second half determined to put up a good showing. Tom Kelly was putting in some strong tackles, and Adam Mills was showing some nice touches.

Midway through the half, James Unwin tried to play a ball across the back of defence and it was picked up by an Ashby forward who raced away to score.

It wasn't what Town really deserved, and another defensive error gifted Ashby a third close to the end to secure the win for the home side. Town must keep their heads up, though, and hope for better fortune in their next league game in two weeks time.
