Fifths washed away

Coalville's fifth string again put in a good display against DTZ Central League South East Division Two league leaders Nuneaton fifths.

In a good game, Coalville more than matched their opponents throughout the first half, with Adam Martin and Adam Lloyd combining well in the centre of midfield and linking up with Josh McArthur and Kristian Webb on the flanks.

David Lorrimer was battling hard, and a good exchange with Ashley Robinson saw a Lorrimer effort blocked by a defender.

It wasn't until five minutes before half time that Nuneaton made the breakthrough. A shot on goal was well saved by Coalville keeper Stuart Burton, but the ball bounced out and deflected off a Nuneaton stick and into the goal.

Coalville soon had a good chance to go level, but Simon McArthur's effort went just wide of the target. Coalville continued to play some really good hockey, and it's a sign of how far the team has come in only their first four weeks that they had a much more experienced Nuneaton side worried quite often.

The second half started in a similar vein, but again midway through the half Nuneaton showed a bit more killer instinct in front of goal to double their lead from a penalty corner. It was against the run of play, though, and the Town defenders Tom Sloan, Sean Rigley and Chris Ashton had largely kept Nuneaton at bay.

But then the weather intervened, with a major thunder, lightening and hailstorm resulting in the players being taken off the pitch for 15 minutes. When play resumed, some of the hunger in Coalville's play had disappeared and Nuneaton were able to grab a couple of late goals to put a slightly unfair slant on the scoreline.
