Fifths beaten by local rivals

Coalville's turned in another good performance at local rivals Ashby, but despite their display ended up with nothing to show for it.

Town failed to take their chances and were made to pay for it by a goal 10 minutes into the second half as Coalville slipped to their first defeat in two weeks.

Coalville started brightly, with some nice work in midfield involving Adam Martin, Adam Lloyd, Josh McArthur and Kristian Webb, and Ashley Robinson soon had a chance which he snatched at.

Matt Wooldridge soon had a shot which went narrowly wide of the goal, while Simon McArthur also had a half chance which a defender managed to block.

Ashby didn't really threaten much, thanks mainly to some fine defending from Sean Rigley, and the other Town defenders, Chris Ashton, Ezra Watson and Tom Sloan were all keeping their men quiet.

Town won a few more penalty corners, but again couldn't make anything of them. Into the second half, a good pass from Sam Edwards created an opening for James Dumelow, but the Coalville forward was denied by the Ashby keeper.

The home side then found the cutting edge that Coalville had failed to find. A free hit outside the area was pushed through to the far post where a player was able to deflect home.

Coalville continued to battle, and Robinson soon had another chance, but failed to hit the target. Simon McArthur then also had a chance, but again luck wasn't with Town and time eventually run out.

So despite dominating, Coalville left Ivanhoe School with nothing - a result that allows Ashby to climb back above them in the DTZ Central League South East Division Two table. Town now take a break from the league, but have two friendlies against sides from the North East Division Two, starting with West Bridgford 9ths next week, and then Derby Asterdale fifths the week after.
