Mixed weekend in local derbies Coalville Town 5th XI 1 Ashby 4th XI 3 Melton 5th XI 2 Coalville Town 5th XI 4 Bodykraft Central League South East Division Two Coalville's fifth string found promotion-chasing Ashby too strong in their Saturday fixture, but came from two-goals down to defeat old rivals Melton on Sunday. Against Ashby it was a fairly scrappy north west Leicestershire derby and the visitors raced into a two-goal lead and never looked like losing the game after that. Josh Bates managed to pull a goal back for Town, but Ashby sealed their win 10 minutes from the end with another goal. On Sunday, Town made a dreadful start and fell behind inside the opening 10 minutes at Melton. Jack Harcourt went close for Coalville from a penalty corner, and Adam Mills also saw an effort saved by the Melton keeper. But things got worse when Melton extended their lead to go in 2-0 up at half time. Skipper James Unwin read his team the riot act during the interval, and it seemed to have the desired affect. Within a couple of minutes of the restart, Town had a goal back - although it owed a huge helping hand from the Melton keeper. The ball was fired into the circle and Mills connected with the ball to send it high towards the goal. It crashed back off the crossbar, and landed behind the Melton keeper. But the home keeper didn't know where the ball was and ended up backheeling it into his own goal for one of those 'What happened next' moments. Having woken up, Coalville pressed on, but Melton should have extended their lead when their centre forward somehow missed an open goal. Town took advantage of the let off to make it 2-2 when Matt Howells dribbled past a defender, who lifted the ball in the challenge, only for Howells to re-adjust and volley the ball home. Town then made it 3-2 when Jason Sign fired home a penalty corner. Melton tried to hit back again, but found Kieran Fisher in the Town goal in good form. And Town then sowed the game up when Bates and Unwin swapped passes for Bates to fire home and make it 4-2 and a happy road trip for Town. |
