3 February 2007 Leaders overcome Town fifths Coalville Town 5th XI 1 Nuneaton 5th XI 3 DTZ Central League South East Division Two Coalville's fifth string gave top of the table Nuneaton a scare in their latest DTZ Central League South East Division Two clash. But, ultimately, the slightly more worldly-wise Nuneaton side had a bit too much for the talented young Coalville team and came away with three points from King Edward VII College. Town made a slow start and fell behind after five minutes when a penalty corner was fired home. But from that moment on, Coalville were more than a match for their opponents. Adam Martin and Adam Lloyd began to get control in the centre of the park, while Tom Sloan and Liam Bates at the back began to dominate their Nuneaton opponents. Coalville won a few penalty corners of their own, and James Dumelow saw a shot well saved by the Nuneaton keeper. Town went in a goal down at the break, but came out all fired up for the second half. They soon went close to levelling the game up when a penalty corner effort was blocked on the line by a defender's foot - but the umpire only gave another penalty corner when it should have been a penalty stroke. Nuneaton took advantage of their bit of fortune and a clever move enabled the Nuneaton dangerman to wriggle through a couple of challenges and flick home a second goal. But Coalville came back again, and when a defender again blocked a goal bound effort with his foot on the line, Town were awarded a penalty stroke. Up stepped Sloan, who sent the keeper the wrong way to slot home into the left hand corner to make it 2-1. Coalville now pushed on in search of an equaliser, but that meant gaps appeared at the back and Kristian Webb and Ezra Watson had to make a number of crucial interceptions. Matt Wooldridge soon went close for Coalville after a mazy dribble, but his shot didn't have the necessary power to beat the keeper, while Declan Turner and Josh McArthur both showed some nice touches. Late on Nuneaton did manage to break through again with a thunderous shot from their dangerman giving Stuart Burton in the Town goal no chance, and sealing a hard earned win for the league leaders. |
