Mills strike not enough

Rugby & East Warwick 7th XI 2  Coalville Town 5th XI  1

Bodykraft Central League South East Division Two

Coalville's fifth string slipped to a defeat which to some extent left a sour taste in the young Coalville side's mouths because of the umpiring of the home umpires.

Town dominated the possession and had the majority of the chances in this game, but it was Coalville's inability to take their opportunities that ultimately cost them points.

James Dumelow soon saw a couple of shots well saved by the Rugby keeper, while Russell Hallam and Jack Harcourt were working hard alongside James Unwin in midfield.

Tom Kelly and Sam Bingley were both in good form, making a number of telling tackles to deny Rugby possession. So it was somewhat against the run of play when Rugby broke forward and took the lead with a goal on the counter.

Town went in a goal down, and a man down, at the break when Dumelow received a yellow card after retaliating to some provocation from a Rugby player.

But Town continued to hog the possession and when they were back to full strength, they deservedly got a well-worked equaliser. Sam Edwards fired in a cross and Adam Mills was on hand to fire home the rebound after an earlier shot had been saved.

Coalville continued to pepper the Rugby goal with shots, but the home keeper kept saving the efforts. Rugby again hit Town with a sucker punch, this time from a penalty corner, to regain the lead.

Despite continuous pressure in the closing stages, Coalville couldn't find a way through to level the game for a second time, and so must hope to get back to winning ways next weekend.
