Fifths come out on top Coalville Town 5th XI 1 Coalville Town 6th XI 0 Bodykraft Central League South East Division Two Coalville's fifth and sixth strings clashed at King Edward VII College and it was the fifths who just managed to come away with the points to go, provisionally, to the top of the Bodykraft Central League South East Division Two. In an enjoyable game for both sides, it was some of the younger players in the 5th XI who really shone, with Adam Mills and Russ Hallam putting in excellent performances, aided by Jack Harcourt and Sam Edwards. For the 6th XI, Ahren Parry and Ash Wootton were playing well, with James Ewing and Matt Howells working hard against the fifth strings central defensive pairing of Martin Saunt and Chris Ashton. The fifth string won several penalty corners an James Dumelow soon went close. James Unwin was working hard, while Tom Kelly and Sam Bingley were putting in some good tackles. For the sixths, Dave Briers and Craig Deacon looked a solid combination at the back, but even they couldn't do anything about the fifths goal midway through the second half. Unwin played the ball out at a penalty corner and Dumelow stepped up to strike home. It was just reward for the fifths who earlier thought they had another goal when Mills made a super run and struck home, only for the umpires to disallow the effort for a defenders foot and give a penalty corner rather than the goal. It was a good game, played in the right spirit and both sides will be looking forward to the re-run at the start of 2008. |
