Late winner gives fifths the points

Northampton Lions 4th XI 0  Coalville Town 5th XI  1

Bodykraft Central League South East Division Two

Coalville's fifth string dominated this match at Moulton College and a goal ten minutes from time by James Unwin gave them a deserved victory.

Town scrapped hard throughout and won lots of possession but struggled to really make headway early as Northampton marked up very tightly to restrict Coalville's chances.

Midway through the first half Coalville did begin to find a way through as Russell Hallam and Jaspal Randhawa began to find their feet in the centre of the park. Good play by the pair of them set Sam Edwards away down the right and his cross was narrowly missed by Jack Harcourt on the far side.

Adam Mills went close after this with a well struck shot that was well saved by the Northampton keeper, and Hallam also saw a shot go inches wide.

Coalville continued to apply the pressure in the second half and they nearly opened the scoring from a penalty corner. The ball was played out to Josh Bates and his drag flick was well saved by the Northampton keeper.

Town's attacking intentions continued to be apparent, and Mills and Edwards both went close to scoring. At the back, the Coalville defence of Sam Bingley, Chris Ashton, and Unwin were in completely control.

Ten minutes from the end, Town won a penalty corner after some more enterprising play. The ball was played out and this time Unwin stepped and hit a shot that was going wide. Luckily, a Northampton player decided to play the ball, and deflected the ball into the goal to give Coalville a win that they fully deserved in a game that was not as close as the scoreline suggests.
