Sixths dent Ashby's promotion hopes

Coalville's sixth string smashed local rivals Ashby in their latest Bodykraft Central League South East Division Two fixture.

The hosts, who needed the win to keep up their hopes of promotion, were crushed as Town played some good hockey to come away with the points that take them back above Coalville fifths in the table.

Town started the game brightly and took the lead inside the opening five minutes with their first real shot at goal. Coalville were awarded a penalty corner and the ball was played out to the edge of the dee. It was slipped into the path of David Lorrimer who slotted home.

Jaspal Randhawa and Craig Deacon were winning lots of the ball in midfield, but couldn't quite find the telling pass to put Matt Howells up front in on goal.

Ashby fought back, though, and Coalville spent much of the first half defending, with Martin Saunt, Dave Briers and Leon Poxon at the back doing some sterling work to keep the hosts at bay.

Early in the second half Ashby's pressure eventually paid off when from a penalty corner the ball was blasted home. Town were then reduced to 10 men when Saunt was shown a yellow card for talking to the umpires.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Town then went up the other end and regained the lead when Randhawa and Ahren Parry combined to find the telling pass for Ash Wootton to race on to and stroke home.

The ten men then went even further in front when Lorrimer was again in the right place at the right time to finish off some neat interchanges between Deacon, Randhawa and Wootton.

Saunt then returned to the play and five minutes from the end Coalville put the seal on their big win when Lorrimer again fired home with a reverse stick effort to round off a superb win.
