Sixths make winning start

Daventry 4th XI  0  Coalville Town 6th XI  2

Bodykraft Central League South East Division Two

Coalville's sixth string made a winning start to their first ever league season by beating another league newcomer, Daventry, on the opening day of the season.

The Coalville side, made up of mostly senior players, controlled much of the play and probably should have won by a more comfortable margin had their finishing been better.

Dean Pallett went close with a couple of fierce early strikes, while Matt Howells and David Lorrimer up front worked hard to supply the ball to the midfield.

Defensively Ahren Parry was in superb form, alongside Craig Deacon, Dave Briers and Ash Wootton at the back, ensuring that Kieran Fisher in the Coalville goal was kept relatively untroubled.

Midway through the half Town got the breakthrough when James Dumelow latched onto Martin Saunt's through ball and fired home on the turn to give Coalville a deserved lead.

The second half saw much the same pattern, with James Unwin an enthusiastic influence on the game and Josh Grainger, on his debut, working hard for Town. James Ewing soon had a chance, but failed to connect properly, while Pallett continued to shoot, but fail to either find the target or beat the keeper.

It was eventually left to Saunt to secure the win when he picked up Dumelow's pass and fired home Coalville's second goal to make it a happy day for the Coalville side.
