NewsVolunteers neededVolunteers are desperately needed to help the club develop and ensure we're actually able to function moving into season 2010/11.
After the AGM, the club was left with only eight committee members (with two of those potentially only temporary). Without a functioning committee, there's little chance of developing the club for the future.
So, instead of sniping from the sidelines, come and get involved! Not only do we need committee members, we also need a Match Secretary and are after a new Webmaster, so please come forward if you'd be interested in taking these roles on or finding out more.
Unless more are willing to help, then we'll struggle to do what members want the club to do for them. So, please, come and help. Contact Chris Ashton if you're interested in getting involved with the committee. Presentation Night 2010Coalville Town Hockey Club held its annual presentation evening at the Hermitage Park Hotel in Coalville on Friday 16 April.
It was an evening where the season's star performers were rewarded for their efforts, and this year the awards threw up a few surprises, with a number of normally 'unsung heroes' walking away with the prizes.
Coalville's 1st XI had an excellent season in East Midlands Division One, winning the league title to bounce straight back to the East Midlands Premier Division at the first attempt. So it was no surprise that they walked off with the team of the year award.
The 1st XI with their winners medalsSlightly more surprising were the winners of the 1st XI player's player and president's cup, with goalkeeper Paul Marston claiming the player of the year award and left back Mick Clarke the president's cup - an unusual situation where a side has won the league for the defensive unit to pick up the awards.
Josh McArthur made it a treble for the 1st XI defence by picking up the young player of the year award - the teenage right back having an excellent first season at the highest level of the club.
The second XI maintained their East Midlands Premier Division status, with Niki Arnold walking off with the player of the year award, and Rich Wright winning the president's cup.
Midfielder Adam Brindley won the player of the year award in the third XI, with another goalkeeper, Kieron Fisher, winning the president's cup. The third strings Chris Pearson picked up the top goalscorer award after amassing 31 goals in a prolific season, while Ezra Watson walked off with the clubman of the year award.
Some of this year's winnersDespite still not knowing for certain whether they have been relegated from the East Midlands Premier Division, the 4th XI had a strong season against tough opposition. Sam Edwards won their player of the year, and also picked up the President's Cup overall - given to the player who has improved the most over the course of the season. James Hinchliffe was the winner of the 4th XI president's cup. Another 4th XI player, Andrew Young, received the under 16 player of the year award.
In the fifth XI, a player who hadn't played hockey before the start of this season, Mark Burditt, was awarded player of the year, with Joe McDonald securing the president's cup.
Another goalkeeper, Matt Brown, won the 6th XI player of the year award, sharing it with big hitting defender Jaspal Randhawa. Adam Lloyd was presented with the president's cup. Another 6th XI player, Mike Reeson, picked up the most promising player award.
