17 July 2007 Ashby left sleepless by Seattle man Coalville Town 7 Ashby 0 Leicester Summer League Coalville Town smashed North West Leicestershire rivals Ashby in their latest Leicester Summer League at St Margaret's Pastures. And it was former Town star Ian Boswell, who had returned for the evening while on holiday to the UK from his home in the American city of Seattle, who proved to be chief tormentor, bagging four goals to leave Ashby with nightmares. Ashby pushed forward in the opening minute and the ball flashed across the Coalville dee. But after two minutes Town had broken the deadlock when Brian Robinson broke forward and slipped the ball into the path of Phil Sign, and the Coalville midfielder made no mistake. A minute later it became 2-0 when Sign slipped the ball through for Boswell and he scampered away to slide it past the Ashby keeper. Ashby steadied the tide after this, but the Coalville defence of Glen Marston, Malcolm Gillion, Andy Newman and Gareth Gamble were still barely breaking sweat. Midway through the half Coalville got a third Boswell broke through a couple of tackles and fired home his second of the game. Town made it 4-0 when Matt Taylor and Robinson combined to find Boswell. Boswell laid the ball off for Gareth Toyer to blast home his 10th goal of the summer league into the bottom corner. Shortly before half-time, Coalville made it 5-0 when Adam Barnett found Boswell and the Town striker completed his hat-trick by blasting the ball high into the goal, leaving the poor Ashby keeper asking what he'd done to deserve this! The second half proved to be a closer affair as Coalville began to tire. But a couple of minutes after the restart Town made it 6-0 when Sign's long ball split the Ashby defence and Barnett latched onto the ball to fire home into the far corner. Ashby did create a couple of openings in the second half, and Paul Marston in the Town goal was forced into a save, but Coalville were never really worried by their North West Leicestershire rivals even though they were giving it everything. The Ashby keeper made a number of good saves to prevent further Coalville goals, while Boswell saw a strike go narrowly wide. The two division gulf in class was shown in Coalville's seventh goal when Robinson slipped Boswell away and the Town forward produced a wonderful flick to lift the ball over the onrushing Ashby keeper and landing perfectly in the goal. Town will face a tougher task next week when they face East Midlands Premier Division rivals Leicester Thursday. Coalville team: Paul Marston; Glen Marston, Malcolm Gillion, Andy Newman, Gareth Gamble; Matt Taylor, Phil Sign, Adam Barnett, Brian Robinson; Ian Boswell, Gareth Toyer.
