Good Start!! but not the one we wanted!
Coalville 1's V's Finchfield
Coalville Town HC Mens 1s opened their 2017/ 18 campaign against an aggressive Finchfield team who were keen to give Coalville a tough opener. Coalville started the game very strong, moving the ball fluidly around the pitch at pace, with improvements made throughout the pre-season making a big difference in the opening stages. This strong passage of play lead to Coalville taking the lead with a nicely placed back post pass by Calum Slaney being finished by one of our new signings Matt Lilley. As the first half closed out however, Coalville were unable to maintain their firm grip on the game, and conceded 2 short corners to end the half down 2 – 1. The second half started again with Coalville on top, scoring an early goal only to have it cancelled as the the umpires felt Old boy Michael Browbank played it with his back stick, however this, partnered with a few players having difficulty understanding the 5meter rule, failed to dis hearten the team and they soon had the game back to 2 – 2. Finchfield retaliated quickly, winning a penalty flick which they narrowly converted past Paul glover, who had already made some crucial 1 v 1 saves in the game. With Coalville losing, they committed to the attack and what looked like it might be the last opportunity fell to Owen “The Repton Womaniser” Lloyd top D, however the chance was not converted but soon after, on the full-time whistle, Coalville won a short corner. The short corner was swiftly converted by Calum Slaney, giving Coalville a hard-fought point, and a platform within the league to progress from. The Man of the Match performance was given to Ben Holder AKA Gunner, for his excellent communication and tackling throughout the game.
Coalville face a tough trip to Chesterfield this week.
